Enjoy a private excursion between landscapes, old buildings and cultural wonders: a day you will never forget.
The day begins at 7:00 am with the departure of the hotel and a first stop at the Tizin Tichka pass: culminating at 2 260 meters of altitude, it is one of the highest passes of the High Atlas.
Allowing to join the semi-arid regions of the High Atlas from the plains of the Atlantic coast, it offers a magnificent view that will undoubtedly dazzle you.
On the road, several stops will allow you to take beautiful pictures.
Then comes the second stop at the Kasbah of Télouet, known for its strategic position in the High Atlas and once the residence of Thami El Glaoui, famous Moroccan pasha and father of the painter Hassan El Glaoui, then a visit to the kasbah of Ait ben Haddou, a pearl of traditional southern Moroccan architecture.
This fortified village, listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site, may tell you something: it has indeed been used as a filming location for many international films and series, including Lawrence of Arabia, The Diamond of the Nile, The Mummy, Gladiator, Game of Thrones (season 3) ...
A lunch at the kasbah ait ben haddou is then planned.
After lunch the Ouarzazate excursion continues, the last piece of road to Ouarzazate is covered.
You will finally be able to discover and explore its striking landscapes, from the arid plains to the green oases, passing of course by the very numerous palm groves.
As for visits, the Taourirt ksar is a must. Get lost between the courtyards and the remarkably preserved faience of this Ksar, but not too long! You don't want to miss the visit of the Atlas film studios to close this wonderful day, before returning to Marrakech at about 7:00 pm...
Between Marrakech and Ouarzazate, about twenty kilometers from the main road stands the Kasbah of Telouet, built in the XIX century and which served as headquarters and residence to the chiefs of the powerful Glaoui tribe, in the name of the pasha of Marrakech until the independence of Morocco in 1956. An obligatory passage for caravans, it occupied a strategic place and was only abandoned after the confiscation of the property of the last lord of the High Atlas, punished for his allegiance to the French.
More than a thousand people lived in this huge fortified castle. The Kasbah of Telouet is now largely ruined, but it has retained its majesty.
Two rooms have kept their rich decoration of zelliges, finely carved stuccos and painted cedar wood ceilings. The entrance is paying.
About 30 km from Ouarzazate. It is one of the most beautiful "ksar" of Morocco.
On the edge of a wadi, clinging to the side of an arid hill, rises the fortified city. Made up of high houses flanked by square towers, it is surrounded by ramparts pierced by a monumental gate that is now walled. It has been partly restored by Unesco and thanks to the money from the films shot here.
At the foot of the walls of the enclosure are spread crops. The kasbah is still inhabited by some families.
204 km south-east of Marrakech. Built from scratch by the French in 1928 to house garrisons. Ouarzazate lies in the middle of a desert plateau at the crossroads of the Draa and Dades valleys. The authorities expect a great tourist development, as proven by the number of luxury hotels. Most of them respect the traditional architecture and were built according to the fortified mode of the kasbahs.
The only ancient monument, the kasbah of Taourirt, which dominates the city and the plain, amazes by its majesty and its massive aspect. As for the others, it is difficult for the visitor to give it an age: it seems both very old, because of its architecture, and recent, probably because of the renovations. It is possible to visit a part of this fortified village which served as residence to the pasha glaoui.
Ouarzazate has become, in recent years, an important center for filming. The directors appreciate the light and the low cost. Studios, of course, named Atlas has been created at the entrance of the city (paying visit).
The tour was really cool and we had the best driver! He was so much fun and took care of our friend when she wasn't feeling well. We totally recommend driving with Yassine 🙂
Mohamed was an excellent guide. He carried us very well and advised us very well on activities and prices. Very kind and good person.
The day trip to Ouarzazate and Ait Benhaddou with Mohamed and Youssef was great! The trip was fun with good music and great stops along the way for photos. Areda always makes sure we have a good time and took some great photos. Recommended!
Mahdi was very kind and took good care of us.
Even though the other participants were disinterested and just talked endlessly among themselves, he did his best.
He made nice stops so we could take pictures of beautiful views, go to the toilet or get drinks for the journey. He also took care of the air-conditioning for us, as it was very hot.
He also made sure we could visit the studios, even though the others were not interested in the last stop of this experience.
