You are on vacation in Marrakech and you want freshness and authenticity? A day trip to the Ourika Valley awaits you.
This very green valley of the High Atlas is located at about fifty kilometers only from Marrakech. It will offer you a haven of peace and freshness and a direct contact with the Berber populations.
The green landscapes and the terraced cultures will surprise you. In this relatively preserved oasis, Berber villages clinging to the mountainside will welcome you. You will be able to walk along the Ourika valley, an optional excursion that will lead you to the 7 small waterfalls of Seti Fatma that overhang the valley will be proposed by our local guide to complete your excursion in the Berber country of Marrakech.
The Ourika valley and the Setti-Fatma waterfall.
The road begins to climb in the mountain at the height of Dar Caid-Ouriki whose Berber souk takes place on Monday at Thnine l'Ourika. Picturesque, it follows the course of the oued Ourika.
The valley, flanked by terraced crops, narrows after Arhbalou. On the left stands the jbel Yagour (2726 m). More than a thousand rock engravings have been counted there. Probably prior to the 1st millennium BC, they show humans, animals, weapons, chariots and geometric designs.
You can follow the torrential waters of the Ourika valley to the Setti-Fatma waterfall, nestled in the heart of the High Atlas mountains at an altitude of 1500 m. Magnificent view on the valley and the Angour massif, which culminates at 3616 m of altitude.
Mohamed was very helpful and accommodating to our needs. The scenery is to die for with waterfalls but make sure you wear trainers as it is very steep in the mountains.
It was nice to have a day out of the city and this trip is ideal if you don't want to travel too far or too long. We travelled by minibus and the company we had made the day even better. The driver was helpful and always asked if we wanted to make certain stops. The guide agreed to ensure a safe passage. Still a good value trip though.
Our trip to the Ourika Valley was out of this world made so much better by our driver and guide Mohamed. Here you have someone who cares and informed us of the difficult climb to the waterfall. Most other tourists were greeted without prior warning of the difficulty and danger, especially for the elderly and parents with very young children.
Beautiful hike in the Ourika valley! We had a great time with the guide and the whole organisation. Highly recommended!
